The time out and the return to Bohemia

2000
In 1985, skaters twirl around a Brussels sports center. A few of them, all smiles, leap towards the camera. Their names are Lida, Jiri, Martin, Eva, Jan, and Lucie. Their common thread: they left their homeland, Czechoslovakia, for the West in 1968 amidst the chaos that followed the Soviet invasion. Today, the filmmaker picks up the camera and films "The Interlude and the Return to Bohemia," where she meets up with her fellow emigrants in the East. The story of this reunion is the subject of this "return"... The film poses a twofold question: how did those who left find the strength to live in exile, and how did those who remained under the oppression of a totalitarian regime survive? But all of them yearn to rediscover their "Czech identity" along with their country, as if closing the parenthesis once and for all. After that, the story resumes its course...
