Belgian Director

Alain Platel is a Belgian choreographer, director, and filmmaker born in Ghent in 1956. Initially trained as a special education teacher (working with children with disabilities), he founded the collective Les Ballets C de la B in 1984, which has become a world-renowned dance-theater company.

His move into filmmaking is a natural extension of his exploration of humanity, pain, and the resilience of the body. His films, often documentary or experimental, reject rigid categories, filming dance as an act of survival and the world as a stage in motion.

His filmography explores the beauty of imperfection and the mechanisms of violence.
