Ana Torfs

Belgian filmmaker
Ana Torfs is a Belgian visual artist and filmmaker whose work unfolds across a multitude of media, ranging from slide projection and film to photography, sound, and tapestry.
Trained in communication studies at KU Leuven and later in film at the Sint-Lukas Institute in Brussels, she has developed a rigorous practice that explores the relationship between image and text, as well as the processes of translation and memory. Her installations, often conceived as immersive devices, deconstruct historical or literary narratives to question their perception and truth.
Her work is regularly exhibited in internationally renowned institutions such as WIELS and Bozar in Brussels, the Generali Foundation in Vienna, and K21 in Düsseldorf. Her works are part of prestigious collections, including the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid and the Kanal Foundation in Brussels.
She lives and works in Brussels, where she has also taught photography at the LUCA School of Arts since 2013.
