Catherine Montondo

American filmmaker

Catherine Montondo is an American director, screenwriter, and actress based in Brussels. Her work lies at the intersection of social documentary, short fiction, and the exploration of complex geopolitical realities.

Initially trained in psychology at Ohio University, then in Russian philology at the University of Strasbourg, she completed her studies with a degree in screenwriting from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). This triple expertise informs a body of work attentive to humanity and conflict zones, whether the wounds of war or the transformations of Eastern European countries.

Her work as a director garnered attention from the outset, notably with her short film *Le Métro*, selected for the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1992.

She continues to live and work in Brussels, where she is also involved in local artistic projects and supporting emerging filmmakers.
