French filmmaker

Son of explorer Paul-Émile Victor and journalist Éliane Decrais, Jean-Christophe Victor is an ethnologist, political scientist, and expert in international relations. A graduate in Chinese and holding a doctorate in anthropology, he initially worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before dedicating himself to conveying knowledge through film. He is internationally renowned for creating and presenting the program "Le Dessous des Cartes" (The Hidden Side of Maps) on Arte, starting in 1990. His approach, based on cartography and long-term historical analysis, aimed to explain the challenges of the contemporary world with simplicity, without ever sacrificing complexity.
