Xavier Villetard

French filmmaker
Xavier Villetard is a French director and screenwriter. Initially a journalist, he turned to documentary filmmaking, focusing on three main themes: Russia, intellectual and artistic movements (such as the Beat Generation and the French New Wave), and the lives of women who have shaped history.
His approach is distinguished by in-depth investigative work, often combining archival footage and interviews to examine collective memory and power dynamics. Like the other filmmakers in your research, he has collaborated with the Belgian company Cobra Films, notably on projects exploring political and social transitions.
He is also known for his filmed biographies of major political and artistic figures, such as André Malraux.
