Music in European film

1989
The film is a tribute to traditional European cinema (35mm black and white and color) using new technology. It invites the general public to discover European High Definition technology: digital sound, a sharper image on larger, more rectangular screens, through the evocation of musical themes from films by great European directors and composers. The "Nova Filamonia" orchestra of Lisbon, conducted by Antoine Duhamel, was filmed by João Correa during rehearsals and the public concert at the closing night of the European Year of Cinema and Television (AECTV) in November 1989. In an original and personal montage, the director has introduced silent excerpts from famous films, thus conveying the faces of so many actors present in the memories of European viewers. Amália Rodrigues, conducted by Álvaro Cassuto, performs themes from renowned Portuguese films.
