Fiction

Napumoceno da Silva Araujo was the most successful businessman in the Cape Verde archipelago. That is why his death left no one indifferent. Carlos, his nephew, already saw himself as the heir to his entire fortune. But his uncle’s life harboured secrets that were to be revealed through a will and tapes recorded for his illegitimate daughter, Graça. Little by little, the young girl discovers the true personality of her father, Napumoceno: an ambitious, opportunistic man… but also a sensitive and passionate one. This film is based on the book *The Will of Napumoceno da Silva Araujo* by the Cape Verdean writer Germano Almeida, one of the finest novelists writing in the Portuguese language. The film is set in Mindelo, the capital of the island of São Vicente, which boasts excellent weather and striking, contrasting landscapes. The film’s production brought together three Portuguese-speaking countries: Portugal, Brazil and Cape Verde, as well as two other European countries: France and Belgium. It showcases the talents of its actors and the exoticism of a country like Cape Verde, where music is one of its greatest treasures.
