Saudade do futuro
From the dizzying heights of skyscrapers under construction to the depths of the subway, from political demonstrations to popular dances, whether they are journalists, mayors, or taxi drivers, the migrants from the Northeast invite us into "their" São Paulo, one of the world's largest cities, with its 16 million inhabitants. They came to live in São Paulo, in the south of the country, to escape the drought of the Northeast or to seek their fortune. Or simply to work because "the marvelous south" concentrates the greatest economic and industrial activity in Brazil. Accompanied by guitar or tambourine, the Northeastern "repentistas," true chroniclers of daily life, improvise rhymes and sung verses inspired by the immediate reality surrounding their listeners. Saudade do Futuro borrows the eyes of the Northeast's inhabitants to look at São Paulo, and their voices to sing of the city! Urban cacophony blends with music, and the "repentes", true ancestors of rap, tell the story of the metropolis with humor and in rhymes.
