Sven Augustijnen

Belgian filmmaker

Sven Augustijnen was born in 1970 in Mechelen. He lives and works in Brussels, where he has become a central figure in experimental cinema.

Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Sint-Lukas in Brussels, and the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, he has developed a multidisciplinary practice encompassing film, installation, and publishing. He is a founding member of the production and distribution platform Auguste Orts.

His approach is based on a meticulous analysis of historiography: he explores how official narratives, archives, and testimonies construct (or distort) our historical and political reality.

He is represented by the Jan Mot Gallery in Brussels, and his work is regularly exhibited in major institutions such as WIELS, S.M.A.K., and Bozar.
