Wil Mathijs

Belgian filmmaker

Born in Belgium in 1977, Wil began making films on Hi8 at the age of 13. After completing his film studies in the late 1990s, he shot his first official short film; however, his experience with the production department was a complete disaster! This is what prompted him to become a producer and a key logistical support for other directors. For over 13 years, he worked on a wide variety of national and international productions: mainly TV adverts, feature films, documentaries and, of course, short films. Wil had the honour of collaborating with icons of French cinema such as Bruno Cremer and Jean-Claude Brialy, as well as with numerous directors, cinematographers, film crews and talent agencies. Yet a great void remained… a quest for his own essence. He missed the creative aspect and the magic of directing and cinematography so much that in 2011, Wil decided to return to his roots as a filmmaker and director of photography.
